Straddling several disciplines such as painting, collage and installation in which he combines different methodologies and visual solutions from one medium to another and in different media, Ubay Murillo (Tenerife 1978) works on the image we have -that we project- of the contemporary body after the economic crisis. In addition, he reflects on the very disciplines he works with.
This approach is enriched with an investigation of how the images produced by the avant-garde in the creation of the new social and physical body permeated the imaginary of consumer capitalism and how they have shaped the body that we now have and also imagine.
A body dismembered, stretched, modified to impossible limits, beaten and used as a support for a culture of capital and consumption. Consumed images that show how the utopian world imagined by the artists of the early twentieth century can end up looking like a dystopia in our present and immediate future.
Ubay Murillo works with several galleries around the world, such as Artizar Gallery in Spain, GE Gallery in Mexico or Constantini Gallery in Milan. He has held important exhibitions in Tenerife, Madrid, Santander, Milan, Bremen, Berlin, Santander or Mexico among many other cities, and regularly participates in fairs such as Zona Maco (Mexico DF), Art Verona (Verona), Artesantander (Santander) or Estampa (Madrid).
