ROBERTO DIAGO
Galería Artizar is pleased to announce its upcoming participation in Zona Maco, Latin America’s most prominent contemporary art fair, held in Mexico City. This marks our fourth consecutive appearance at this prestigious international event, consolidating our ongoing presence within one of the most dynamic and relevant cultural contexts on the global art scene.
For this edition, Artizar will present a solo project by Cuban artist Roberto Diago (Havana, 1971), one of the most solid and singular voices in Latin American contemporary art. The project brings together a body of recently created works, conceived specifically for this pivotal moment in the artist’s career. It serves as an exclusive prelude to his participation in this year’s Venice Biennale, where Diago will represent the Pavilion of Cuba.
The proposal presented at Zona Maco delves into the lines of inquiry Diago has developed in recent years, addressing issues linked to historical memory, colonial heritage, racialization, spirituality, and the power structures that permeate both bodies and collective narratives. Through a restrained materiality charged with symbolic meaning, his works establish a direct dialogue with the contemporary social and political context, while maintaining a profound poetic and formal dimension.
Presenting this project in Mexico City carries special significance within the framework of Zona Maco—a fair that has established itself as a fundamental platform for dialogue between Latin America, Europe, and the United States. In this setting, Roberto Diago’s work stands as a bridge between shared histories, enduring tensions, and processes of cultural resistance.
