Marta María Pérez Bravo (Havana, 1959) is one of the most significant figures in contemporary Cuban art and a key presence in Latin American conceptual photography. Since the 1980s, her work has delved deeply into themes related to the body, spirituality, religious syncretism, and female identity. Almost always using her own body as a symbolic medium, Pérez Bravo has developed a visual language of great poetic strength, where ritual and photographic image merge to reflect on the relationship between the visible and the invisible, the earthly and the divine.
Her work has been the subject of numerous solo and group exhibitions in leading international institutions, and she has received prestigious distinctions such as the Guggenheim Fellowship in New York and a career award from the Cisneros-Fontanals Art Foundation (CIFO) in Miami.
Pérez Bravo’s photographs are included in such renowned collections as those of the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) in New York, the Museum of Contemporary Art (MCA) in Sydney, the Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofía (MNCARS) in Madrid, the Museo Nacional de Bellas Artes in Havana, and the Daros Latinamerica Collection in Zurich, among others.
