THIS IS THE THIRD EDITION OF THE ESTAMPA FAIR IN WHICH ARTIZAR GALLERY PARTICIPATES. ON THIS OCCASION WE PRESENT A PROJECT FORMED BY TENERIFE ARTISTS MARCO ALOM AND ALEJANDRO CORREO, GALICIAN ARTIST PAMEN PEREIRA AND CUBAN ARTIST JUAN ROBERTO DIAGO.
THE YOUNG CANARY ISLANDERS MARCO ALOM AND ALEJANDRO CORREA ARE ALREADY AN ARTISTIC REALITY IN OUR ARCHIPELAGO, WITH AN INCIPIENT CAREER THAT WITH THE HELP OF THE GALLERY HAS DONE NOTHING BUT GROW. SOLO EXHIBITIONS IN MUSEUMS OF THE ISLANDS, NATIONAL ART FAIRS AND, OF COURSE, PROJECTS IN ARTIZAR SUGGEST THAT THIS IS A SOLID FUTURE FOR THE VISUAL ARTS IN THE CANARY ISLANDS.
FOR HER PART, PAMEN PEREIRA IS ALREADY ONE MORE OF THE ARTIZAR FAMILY, WITH THREE SOLO EXHIBITIONS IN OUR GALLERY SHE HAS TAKEN OUR LAND AS ONE MORE OF HER HOMES, WHICH SHE HAS MANY, BECAUSE HER CAREER IS REALLY FRUITFUL AND OVERWHELMING, GALLERIES, MUSEUMS, FAIRS, AWARDS AND COUNTLESS PROJECTS ACROSS THE GLOBE. THE ARTISTIC PATH OF PAMEN PEREIRA ENJOYS AN ENVIABLE HEALTH, BEING HEAD OF THE BILLBOARD OF SOME OF THE MOST IMPORTANT GALLERIES IN SPAIN.
AND FINALLY, THE GREAT ROBERTO DIAGO, ONE OF THOSE CUBAN CREATORS THAT HAVE SEDUCED US SO MUCH AND THAT WE ARE SO PROUD TO BE ABLE TO REPRESENT IN EUROPE. DIAGO IS A REFERENCE IN AFRO-CARIBBEAN ART, BEING A REGULAR IN BIENNIALS SUCH AS THOSE OF HIS HOMETOWN (HAVANA) OR DAKAR. WITH A SOLID POSITION IN THE U.S. AND LATIN AMERICAN ART MARKET, HE IS PART OF RENOWNED PUBLIC AND PRIVATE COLLECTIONS AND IS CONSIDERED AT HIS YOUNG AGE AS ONE OF THE MASTERS OF CUBAN ART TODAY.
Born in Tenerife, he has lived and worked for several years on the island of El Hierro. His work revolves around his obsessions: The Territory in which he lives, The History of Art, The Power of the Icon, Anthropology, and to unravel and understand ultimately what it is that which forms us and what we call Culture. He graduated in Fine Arts from the University of La Laguna in 2011.
He has worked as an illustrator for publishers such as the German Konkurbusch, in projects such as the one carried out with the German artist Horst Hoheissel on Historical Memory (Tenerife, 2008), The Emerging Art Fair of El Charco (Lanzarote), Memories of Smuggling (Tenerife and La Palma, 2014), or The Illustrated Journey (2014) with the Danish illustrator Mads Berg that was exhibited in several European cities such as London, Dublin, Madrid or Milan, or New Island of Utopia (Tenerife, 2015). He has been selected in the calls: PEJAC for the exhibition Tártaro (Madrid, 2014), or NOW’15 for the ARTIZAR Gallery (Tenerife, 2015). He has also had solo exhibitions Del Amor y Lo Ridículo (Ateneo de La Laguna, Tenerfe, 2010), and Soliloquio (La Regenta, Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, 2015).
Pamen Pereira presents a work that moves between drawing, painting, sculpture, installation; sometimes photography or video, or any other medium or material useful to realize the creative act. His creative process, generally fused with life experience, is closely linked to nature, from which he draws much of his images.
Without abandoning the solitude of the studio as a place of reflection and study from which more intimate works emerge, in recent years his work has focused on site-specific installations and artistic interventions for public and private spaces, which delve into the social nature of art, the role of the artist in society and the important social function of the poetic image.
An artistic approach that is basically the radical choice of a way of life. A demanding fidelity to this as a way of knowledge and a place of transformation. Life as the main working cabinet.
Roberto Diago is one of the most recognized contemporary artists in Cuba. Born in 1971, he trained at the San Alejandro Academy in 1990 and works as Consultant Professor at the Higher Institute of Art, Havana.
The everyday is the material of his work, he makes use of the materials that the day to day offers him and gives them a symbolic charge in an act of cultural resistance. His work reflects his interest in the legacy of African culture brought by slaves to Cuba, and how it is presented in today’s Cuban society.
He has recently had important exhibitions such as his solo at the Lowe Museum in Miami. A regular figure in the best art fairs in the United States and Latin America, he has also shown his work at fairs such as ARCO Madrid or FIAC Paris, as well as at the Venice, Havana and Dakar biennials. He has work in the National Museum of Havana, Deste Foundation in Athens, Brownstone Foundation in Paris, CIFO Collection in Florida, Boston Fine Arts Museum or Jorge M. Pérez Museum in Miami, among many other internationally renowned collections.
Over the course of his creative development, the artist has progressively distanced himself from the setting. From gloomy figures surrounded by suffocating invisible walls, reality itself takes a step back to get a little air and perspective, allowing the onlooker to enjoy a natural and complex sensuality. From the person and their edges to the undulating beauty of their surroundings. From complex voluptuousness to the temperate infinity of reflexive horizons. His brush strokes conceal personal stories imbued with nostalgia, richness and half-light. Pieces that anchor the soul whilst at the same time threatening to avert their gaze suddenly, like the elusive movement of a shadow in a 19th Century back alley. Because every painting by Alejandro Correa is the result of intimate and honest communication between the piece and the artist; a moderate and restrained tête-à-tête that distils a romanticism befitting of times gone by, highly in keeping with the painter’s genius, whose creative process masks a spontaneous coherence and an almost visceral authenticity. Beyond that, there is simply the openness of someone has never sought anything other than to yield part of his soul gladly. He is at the dawn of his artistic career, and his work has already been included in institutional exhibitions held at the Museo Cabrera Pinto in Tenerife, Havana’s contemporary Espacio Arte, as well as individual exhibitions such as the one held in 2016 at the Galería Artizar.
