Galería Artizar was founded in 1989 in the city of La Laguna, located on the island of Tenerife, in the archipelago of the Canary Islands. La Laguna is a world heritage city, a wonderful cultural and historical centre.
Artizar started out specializing in local art, by artists from the Canary Islands, but over the years its network of collectors and supporters gradually grew, so little by little it began including artists from throughout Spain, and over the past decade, through the undeniable link that exists between the Canary Islands and Cuba, it started specializing in contemporary Cuban art, representing some of Cuba’s most important contemporary artists on the European continent.
It holds around 7 exhibitions a year and represents more than 20 artists. Its regular projects also include grants for young artists, promoting and supporting its artists at international biennials and art fairs, as well as links with museums and other national and international galleries.
In short, for over thirty years, Galería Artizar, which is now in its second generation, has been exporting the best art from Spain and the Canary Isles, and importing the finest Cuban art.
